ASHRAE Student Design
Competition
ASHRAE invites
undergraduate and graduate students around the
world to gain valuable hands-on experience in
practical design by submitting entries for its
2010 Student Design Competition, which will
feature the Ginsburg Tower at Florida Hospital
in Orlando, Fla. The Competition aims to promote
teamwork and allow students to become involved
in the HVAC profession early while still
studying for their degree. Student teams are
required to register online and may choose to
compete in one of three categories: HVAC
System Design, HVAC System Selection and the
Competition's newest option, Integrated
Sustainable Building Design.
ASHRAE
recommends that the project groups consist of at
least two members from an undergraduate
engineering or architecture curriculum for the
HVAC System Design and Selection categories and
at least three members (architecture or
construction, mechanical and electrical) for the
ISBD category. The 2009 Student Design
Competition saw the largest number of entries on
record and ASHRAE looks forward to seeing even
more student involvement in 2010.
To
save on resources, all entries should be
uploaded to an ASHRAE FTP site by
May 7, 2010. First, second and
third place winners will be chosen by August 6,
2010 and a representative from each team will be
presented with their award at ASHRAE's 2011
Winter Conference to be held in Las Vegas, Nev.
