Technical Tour - Sharks Ice Practice Facility
Our May meeting will be a technical tour of Sharks Ice in San Jose. Sharks Ice is the official practice facility of the San Jose Sharks! Additionally this meeting is a "Student Night" so please let Joe Chin know if you're interested in sponsoring a student. We will be announcing our 2010 San Jose ASHRAE Scholarship recipient during this meeting.
Background
Sharks Ice at San Jose is located at 1500 South Tenth Street in San Jose, California, at the intersection of Alma and Tenth Street. It is the largest ice rink facility of it is kind west of the Mississippi and it is one of only seven ice rink facilities in the United States that currently operates at least four NHL-sized ice rinks.
To meet its cooling/refrigeration needs, the facility includes:
2 - Chiller Package Chiller Units, 355 Lbs of R-134a refrigerant per system, indirect systems, ethylene glycol chilled water, 3 screw compressors per unit
1 - 18,000 lbs of R-22 refrigerant, direct systems, 2 industrial refrigeration compressors
4 - Cooling Towers
3 - Desiccant Dehumidifiers
5 - Ice Resurfacers
3 - Hot Water Boilers
The 170,000 square-feet facility accommodates ice hockey, figure skating, broomball, curling, speed skating, ice dancing, as well as public skating. The Sharks Ice Rink is the official practice facility of the NHL's San Jose Sharks. Sharks Ice in San Jose, along with Sharks Ice at Fremont, it currently holds the largest number of Adult USA Hockey participants (2,400) of any facility in the nation.

Cost

Cancellations
Must be made by the Friday prior the meeting. Otherwise you will be invoiced. San Jose ASHRAE will be committed to a minimum number of attendees and will incur costs for cancellations after this date. All no-shows and cancellations after May 7 will be invoiced for the cost of the event. Please note that we accept cash or check only. Please make checks payable to San Jose ASHRAE.
